What is meant by MetaMask?

MetaMask is a bridge between the Ethereum blockchain and your browser. It allows you to interact with decentralized apps (dapps) right in your browser, without running a full node or downloading a new app each time you want to use one.

In a traditional app, a user has a unique username for identification purposes and a password to verify their account.

On the contrary, a decentralized app makes use of cryptography concepts. Each and every user is related to a public key, and the password acts like a private key.

Through the MetaMask sign in users are allowed to access their public key and private key in the browser with the help of an extension. So basically it enables you to connect to decentralized apps with your Ethereum (or some other blockchain) address. It also enables you to interact with smart contracts and proceed to play games, purchase NFTs, and many other wonderful things.
