Catawba Indian tribe breaks ground on $700m casino in North Carolina
It will take two phases to complete the permanent structure of the new Two Kings Casino.
US - The Catawba Indian Tribe has broken ground on a $700 million casino in North Carolina. The groundbreaking ceremony for the permanent Two Kings Casino took place on Friday, June 7. The tribe currently operates a single-story temporary casino at the site.
The new casino at Kings Mountain is located about 35 miles south of Charlotte. According to the Catawba Tribe, the new project is expected to create about 2,000 jobs.
“We persevered to get a fair deal, and now our members and the people of Cleveland County can fully realize the financial and economic benefits of this project,” said Catawba Nation Chief Brian Harris.
“The establishment of this casino is not just about bricks and mortar, it symbolizes our commitment to preserving our tribal identity, supporting our community and creating opportunities for our residents. This project will not only generate revenue for the Tribe, but will provide jobs, education and social programs that will benefit tribal members and the surrounding area. These jobs, including construction jobs, and increased visitors will provide local governments and the State of North Carolina with additional tax revenue and other investments under the Compact. The Catawba Tribe is committed to keeping casino revenues in North Carolina, unlike what outside commercial casino companies are doing.”
Tribal officials have said they plan to open the first phase of the Catawba Two Kings Casino Resort in 2026. The land-based phase will include 1,350 slots and electronic table games, 12 table games, and a 40-seat restaurant with a sportsbook area. The tribe finalized a private agreement with former casino developer Skyboat Gaming in May for a ground lease on trust land.
In March, the Catawba Nation announced that it would add 12 live table games to the temporary casino. 바카라사이트
