RIP Charlie Tuttle, situs slot delusion of grandeur, and Tunica WSOP Circuit Event...
Hello all. I have finally found a bit of time to update my languishing blog. I have had some things happen over the last few weeks and just haven't found the time to blog about them at all.
It is amazing how time gets away from you while doing the everyday things in life like going to work, spending time with your family, etc. It seems like just yesterday that me and my wife were taking our annual trip up to Gatlinburg, eating pizza and drinking micro-brew with no kids and how effortlessly we lived and now we are a full-blown family with two small children (29 month old little girl and 12 month old little boy) who test our intestinal fortitude everyday.
I have been planning for some time now to post about how family life and raising 2 small children is very similar to situs slot but that will have to wait because I have a number of ideas I want to cover and I just haven't had time to do the post justice.
Anyways... On to poker...
First of all I want to extend my deepest and sincerest sympathy to Charlie Tuttle's friends and family. I only met him (and played poker with him) once but he was definitely a kindred soul. R.I.P. Charlie Tuttle and may you flop the nuts through eternity.
A month ago I decided to try to qualify for the WSOP through PokerStars via an FPP satellite. For those that don't know an FPP is a Frequent Player Point. You accumulate these points as you play on PokerStars in both ring games and tournaments. I had built up to 1400 and began playing 3 to 5 times a week in the 40 FPP satellite. This satellite was usually anywhere from 600 to 1200 people vying for 2 spots to the 4000 FPP Sunday tournaments that were anywhere from 250 to 350 people vying for 2 WSOP main event buyins. Well on my 4th 40 FPP tourney I qualified (finished 1st out of 787) for the 4000 FPP tourney on the Sunday before the WSOP main event actually started. I ended up going out 67th out of 307 entrants however and was denied my WSOP berth. Oh well... I will just have to try again next year. If I can build my bankroll up enough I am going to begin playing one $160 double shootout a month when they start. We'll just have to see...
I have been taking a shellacking in the Poker League that I run until I recently finished 1st which will hopefully get the ship floating upright again. I've got a long way to go though if I want to cash in the end of the season pot which pays the 3 lowest index scores with 50%, 30%, and 20% of $500.
On August 10th, I will be traveling to play in the Tunica WSOP Circuit Event #1 which is actually on August 11th and is a $300+$40 buyin ($¿40 entry fee for a $300 buy? OUCH!)
I will be going with Jason of Catching The Antichrist fame. Hopefully both or at least one of us will do well. Satellites for all of the events start on August 10th so if you will be in the vicinity let's meet up and play some cards and grab some eats or something.
Just so's everyone knows the best place to get your drink on in Tunica is at the center bar in the middle of the Grand Casino. What you do is pop a $5 bill in the $. 25 video poker machine and play a hand every beer or so. Makes for a fun night away from the poker tables and especially win you turn $5 into $40 over an 8 drink stint.
I will try and post a Tunica trip update as soon as I can but Jason will probably beat me to it so be sure to visit his little oasis of a poker blog.
Rip the knobs off the dial and leave it right here for another month or so...
